Shinya Aoki - No-Gi Judo Takedowns from the Clinch Instructional Video

Another one of those days where I'm a little short on time, but I found another gem for you guys:

No-Gi Judo Takedowns from the Clinch by Shinya Aoki

It's in Japanese, but don't worry- it's subtitled, and he does a great job explaining everything slowly and thoroughly, and breaks downs moves step by step.

I'm sure I missed a few, but what he covers in this 10-minute video:

  • Grips
  • O Soto Gari
  • Ko Soto Gari
  • Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi
  • Attacks from Open Clinch
  • Uchi Mata
  • O Uchi Gari
  • Sabaori
  • Examples of his takedowns in Competition
Great video, so watch it!

that was an awesome video you found - what DVD set was it from? I mean, I speak japanese as a secondary language, but the subtitles are just fine to learn from, and I would love a Shinya Aoki DVD in my collection.

Great Vid, A great demonstration of how very basic judo throws can be adapted for MMA. becuase there is no gi to grip hence you have to hold your opponent tighter, the throws are probably easier to perform this way.

Actually, since it is no-gi, it's harder for two reasons-

It's very hard to maintain the grip, and if you're in MMA, the gloves make it really, really hard to maintain.

Since you're so close, making space for your legs suddenly becomes much more difficult.

On the other hand, the lack of a gi also makes it harder for your opponent to counter your throw.
