Armdrag to Back Mount (Standing) - Marcelo Garcia, No-Gi

Another video on arm drags, this time No-Gi, by one of the true masters of the back mount, Marcelo Garcia. The Video below covers how Marcelo jumps into a stand-up back mount on an opponent with his bread and butter transitioning technique- the armdrag.

-He sets up his armdrag by grabbing at the near-side wrist, dragging it across, grabbing behind the tricep with the other hand, and yanking his opponent diagonally while stepping out toward that arm's side. If you get nothing else out of this post, at the very least, get this down correctly and completely to add to your grappling arsenal if you haven't done so already (It works just fine with a Gi too, just so you know).

-He immediately reaches around with the near side arm and goes for the ideal over/under control from the side.

(BTW, if you're not comfortable with trying to get the standing back mount because your opponent might slam you before he breaks down, shuffle/circle towards your opponent's frontside, just post your leg behind his legs, twist, and lift for the takedown.)

-He keeps his chest on his opponent's back for control.

-The important bit here that separates the good from the excellent is patience. He doesn't try to force the hooks in, he waits for his opponent to try and stand up to seize the opportunity to get hook after hook in. I've seen far too many people lose that position by pretending to be the next Marcelo Garcia and jump across looking for the far side hook first, resulting in nothing but failure and tears. Near side hook first, THEN far side as he continues to try and stand.

-Keep your hooks above his knees and near his hips, maintain the over under, and what you do from there is your own choice (might I suggest a rear naked choke?), but I may remind you to tuck your chin in and try to roll to the side if he tries to slam your back onto the floor.

predictions for tomorrow...??

Hey, sorry- on days I go to work, I write the posts a day early, and I had written both this one and the Predictions yesterday, but I screwed the pooch on that post. I don't sign into my blogger account outside of my home (mostly because I'm paranoid), so I'll try to get that posted as soon as I can- look for it later tonight.

My bad.

In the meantime, here's my predictions anyway:

Georges St-Pierre Vs. Jon Fitch
GSP via TKO unless Fitch out wrestles him, which there is a decent chance of (Pick em' bout)

Brock Lesnar Vs. Heath Herring
Lesnar via Rabbit Punches of Death

Kenny Florian Vs. Roger Huerta
KenFlo by Sub/Decision

Manny Gamburyan Vs. Rob Emerson
Gamburyan by Decision/Sub

Jason MacDonald Vs. Demian Maia
Maia via Sub, although MacDonald has better skills overall

Cheick Kongo Vs. Dan Evensen
Kongo by Decision

Ben Saunders Vs. Ryan Thomas
Saunders by TKO

Given the card, I'd give myself about a 70% chance of accuracy here at most.
