My UFC 128 Predictions - Shogun vs Jones

Countdown to UFC 128
Before I begin, does anyone else get the feeling that the powers that be in the UFC REALLY, REALLY wants Jones to win? My other theory is they hype the crap out of Jones to get semi-ridiculous odds in favor of him and create an opportunity to make a crapton on Shogun bets. [/conspiracy tinfoil hat]

Anyway, I'm pretty stoked about this match, the Shogun-Jones matchup is a heck of a show waiting to happen, and I always love watching Urijah Faber fight. BTW, remember that the stream is an hour earlier than before, so 9ET, not 10.

My Predictions and Picks for UFC 128 - Pick in Bold and Italicized

Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua vs. Jon 'Bones' Jones -TKO Rd 2 - Light-Heavyweight Title Fight
  • The chance that Jon Jones will catch Rua with something out of left field is quite large, but I believe Shogun's experience will come to his advantage - maintaining distance and destroying the legs early will likely be Rua's strategy early in the fight, then aggressive Vitor Belfort-style punching like he did against Machida once he's slowed down Jones. However, I hope Shogun works on his takedown defense and guard work, because until those legs have been battered, Jones will be able to take him down pretty easily and  lay down some hurt. Despite my safe choice up above, somewhere in the back of my head I'm rooting for either Jones by spinning elbow or Rua by Guillotine. I should say I'm also rooting for Shogun to win so there is a chance that Anderson Silva gets a shot at him before/after Rashad Evans if the Spider vs GSP bout doesn't work out soon because that would be an awesome fight.
Urijah Faber vs. Eddie Wineland - RNC Rd 1
  • Despite the fact that Wineland is a great fighter with some really heavy hands, it does seem that he's being used as a sacrificial lamb for Faber's UFC debut. I think Faber's best bet is to lull Wineland into thinking he's going to trade with him, then take him down and work his magic there.
Jim Miller vs. Kamal Shalorus

Dan Miller vs. Nate Marquardt

  • Akiyama pulled out over what's going on in Japan, I believe.
Mirko 'Cro-cop' Filipovic vs. Brendan Schaub
  • It really does hurt me a bit on the inside to not be able to believe in CroCop anymore.
Luis Artur Cane Jr.vs. Eliot Marshall

Edson Barboza vs. Anthony Njokuani

Ricardo Almeida vs. Mike Pyle

Kurt Pellegrino vs. Gleison Tibau
  •  I kind of want to give this one to Tibau b/c I'm not sure Pellegrino is 100% after his ACL injury
Joseph Benavidez vs. Ian Loveland

Nick Cantone vs. Costantinos Philippou
