How to Cancel the Auto Renew for XBox Live Online Without Calling

This might be an official Microsoft image.
So, I'm going to be very blunt here: whoever at Microsoft was behind the removal of the option to cancel the XBox Live autorenew online should be raped by demons smacked upside the head by the ghost of Evan Tanner until the end of days. I get it, you know? Making money off of those too lazy/antisocial to call MS support (aka the majority of gamers) is easy, and forcing everyone who does call to be subjected to guilt trips, threats, and the general run-around (I almost said reach-around, but that would make appropriate too). It's bullshit.

Thankfully, I found out that the state of Illinois made such business practices illegal. What does that mean for you? It means that there's a way to cancel online

Steps:

  1. Log into https://live.xbox.com
  2. Go to My Account
  3. On the left side of the page, there is the Payment & Billing column
  4. Click on Update Billing Account Information
  5. Change your address to somewhere in IL- I used Chicago. Use google maps to help.
  6. Back on the My Account page, there should now be a link under the "Automatic Renewal"
  7. Click, and change to "Off"
  8. You should get a confirmation email
  9. Rejoice and share this article with other pissed off XBL users.
You're welcome.
